Green Lake Providence Road SignLake Providence
Entering Louisiana on US 65 from the north, Lake Providence is the first town you come to, and that's why it's known as the "Gateway to Louisiana."  Lake Providence is also the name of the seven-mile-long oxbow LAKE located there.

The cypress-studded lake was once part of the Mississippi River, and the levee keeping the river out of the town is a dominant part of the scenery and landscape.

Highway 65 makes a sharp turn at the The Mississippi River Levee in Lake ProvidenceLake Providence - The Lake  The oxbow lake was formed when the Mississippi River changed its course. Sweeping cypress trees inhabit its shoreline and water sport opportunities abound.

Lake Providence Port has facilities that load and unload the barges that ply the Mississippi River.

Lake Providence projects "on the drawing board" are (1) Ethanol plant, and (2) a new Health Department building.

Cotton Country Trade Days - A flea market for persons wanting to sell new, old or used items.
