Newellton, Louisiana Twenty-five miles south of I-20 on Highway 65, Newellton is in the midst of Tensas Indian Mounds, where Lake Bruin, Lake St. Joseph, and Yucatan Lake are all located, well known for watersports, good fishing and duck hunting. Newellton has history dating back to LaSalle, who explored the area in 1682. Acres and acres of cotton fields and alligators and crop dusters and cypress trees and beautiful Spanish moss and cypress knees and crawfish and sunflowers and wildlife. Newell Cemetery. The history of the Newell Family is engraved on the marble archway at the entrance of the family cemetery in Newellton. The graveyard is located on Louisiana Highway 575.
